Have you ever looked at your backyard pool and wondered if there’s a better way to care for it? Not just balancing chlorine or scooping leaves—but actually treating the water itself as a precious resource? That question stuck with me after two decades working in the utility industry. It ultimately led to the creation of Monarch Purification.
For most of my life, I’ve worked behind the scenes—keeping homes warm, neighborhoods lit, and entire communities running safely. With over 20 years in utilities—first at Southwest Gas, then in management at PG&E—I’ve led emergency response during natural disasters, managed large field operations, and trained teams that kept people safe under high pressure.
But when I stepped away from the corporate world, it wasn’t to slow down. It was to do something smarter—and more sustainable.
That’s why I started Monarch Purification.
Decades of Seeing Water Go to Waste
Working in natural gas and electric infrastructure teaches you a lot about systems—how they function, how they fail, and how they can be made better. One thing that always stood out to me was how precious water is, especially in the Southwest.
Living in Arizona, where water is one of our most critical and limited resources, it’s shocking how common it still is for people to completely drain their pools every few years, dumping 15,000–20,000 gallons into the street just to deal with hard water or chemical buildup.
After a while, I couldn’t ignore it.
I started thinking: There has to be a better way.
Creating a Smarter Alternative to Draining Pools
When I came across reverse osmosis (RO) technology for pools, I was intrigued. I’d seen industrial RO systems used in utility applications, but hadn’t realized it could be scaled down, mobilized, and used for residential swimming pools. That changed everything.
Traditional draining creates a lot of risk—especially in Arizona. From cracked plaster to hydrostatic pressure issues, draining a pool can cause more problems than it solves. And when it’s refilled with hard Arizona tap water, the cycle of calcium, metals, and chemical inefficiency just starts all over again.
By contrast, reverse osmosis recycles the existing pool water, removing contaminants like:
- Calcium hardness
- Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
- Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
- Phosphates
- Salts and metals
Instead of starting over, you purify and improve what’s already there. It’s better for the pool, better for the water table, and a smarter investment in long-term maintenance.
Building Monarch Purification
In 2017, Monarch was launched with a mission: to bring sustainable, safe, and effective water recycling to homeowners and property managers across Arizona.
I designed our service to be:
- Mobile – We come to you. No draining, no downtime.
- Eco-Friendly – Reuse 85–90% of your pool water.
- Risk-Free – No exposure to structural damage from draining.
- Better Performing – Clean water = fewer chemicals, fewer problems.
Over the past few years, we’ve served hundreds of clients—from first-time homeowners to luxury property managers—helping them extend the life of their pools, protect their families, and reduce their environmental impact without sacrificing swim time.
What We Offer Today
Whether it’s a basic water quality check or a full RO purification cycle, Monarch Purification is built around simple goals:
✅ Help pool owners get more life out of their water
✅ Prevent the damage and waste of draining
✅ Make purified water the new standard in Arizona
Our process works for:
- Traditional chlorine pools
- Saltwater systems
- Residential and commercial properties
- Even off-season or post-monsoon cleanup
We also provide honest guidance to clients who are unsure if they need a full purification cycle. Not every pool needs RO immediately, but when the time comes, it’s our job to help homeowners recognize the signs—like calcium scaling, high CYA, or unexplained cloudiness.
Looking Ahead
This business was never just about cleaning pools. It’s about applying decades of operational know-how to help homeowners make smarter decisions about water, maintenance, and long-term value.
As Monarch continues to grow, we’re looking to:
- Expand our service areas in and beyond the Phoenix Valley
- Partner with local HOAs, commercial managers, and sustainability groups
- Educate more people about the power of purification
One of the most rewarding moments came from a family in Scottsdale. Their pool looked fine from the surface, but tests showed dangerously high TDS and calcium levels. After a single RO treatment, not only did their pool sparkle like never before, but their children also noticed the water felt “softer” and less harsh on their skin. It’s stories like these that remind me why Monarch exists.
If you’re curious whether your pool water is ready for purification, or just want to understand how the process works, I’d be glad to connect. You can contact me through this site or learn more at azpoolwater.com.
